Item description
This is a great set of Hand Crafted Figural Rooster and Hen Salt and Pepper Shakers from the 1930s-40s and Sorcha Boru whose real name was Claire Stewart. She worked out of studios in Menlo Park and San Carlos, California in the 1930s thru 1950s. There is the SBC mark on both - both need stoppers. The nesting hen has three holes and the tall rooster has one but looks like there are indents on either side of one hole originally intended to be a 2nd and 3rd hole. I have a collection myself and the lady who originally had a lot of these knew her and went to the studio to buy frequently - some of the ones I am selling (and keeping) might be experimental or one of a kind - some pieces I have seen elsewhere and others not. I think these might be experimental as the color is unusual - a burgundy or dark red - and I haven't seen these anywhere else. The tall one measures approx. 4" tall x 3 7/8" long and the smaller one approx. 2 1/4" tall x 3" long and they are both in good pre-owned condition - no chips or cracks.
