Questo pezzo commemorativo da 10 franchi del 1848 celebra la Repubblica e il Cantone di Ginevra durante un anno di profonda trasformazione costituzionale per la Svizzera. Il dritto presenta una croccante corona di alloro e quercia che circonda la denominazione e la data, incorniciata dalla scritta "REPUBLIQUE ET CANTON DE GENEVE". Questo design racchiude sia l'orgoglio civico che l'identita federale, sottolineando il duplice status di Ginevra sia come cantone sovrano che come membro integrante del neonato stato federale svizzero, istituito nell'anno rivoluzionario del 1848.Il rovescio mostra il sorprendente stemma cantonale di Ginevra, che combina l'aquila imperiale e la chiave di San Pietro sotto un radioso cristogramma "IHS". Il motto "POST TENEBRAS LUX" ("Dopo l'oscurita, notoriamente associata alla Ginevra calvinista, parla del pensiero e degli ideali del cantone della Riforma. Sebbene si tratti di una restrizione moderna del tipo originale del 1848, rimane un fedele omaggio agli albori della Svizzera moderna e alla duratura eredita culturale e politica di Ginevra. Un oggetto distinto per collezionisti di numismatica cantonale e federale.
