Esta pieza conmemorativa de 10 francos de 1848 celebra la República y el Canton de Ginebra durante un año de profunda transformacion constitucional para Suiza. El anverso presenta una corona nítida de laurel y roble que rodea la denominacion y la fecha, enmarcada por la inscripcion ?REPUBLIQUE ET CANTON DE GENEVE?. Este diseño encapsula tanto el orgullo cívico como la identidad federal, subrayando el doble estatus de Ginebra como canton soberano y miembro integral del recien formado estado federal suizo, establecido en el año revolucionario de 1848. El reverso muestra el llamativo escudo de armas cantonal de Ginebra, que combina el aguila imperial y la llave de San Pedro debajo de un cristograma radiante "IHS". El lema "POST TENEBRAS LUX" ("Despues de la oscuridad, luz"), famoso asociado con la Ginebra calvinista, habla del papel perdurable del pensamiento y los ideales de la Reforma del canton como centro de la Ilustracion.
