Cette medaille suisse de tir de 1847 finement concue par le Freischiessen federal de Glaris commemore l'un des premiers festivals nationaux de tir (Eidgenosesrisches Freyschiessen) organises en Suisse premoderne. L'avers affiche fierement la figure de saint Fridolin, le saint patron de Glaris, dans un bouclier heraldique, entoure de couronnes de chene et de laurier - symboles de force civique et d'honneur martial. La legende environnante, "EIDGENOSSISCHES FREYSCHIESSEN IN GLARIS", ainsi que la date 1847, situent cette medaille dans une annee memorable de l'histoire suisse, juste avant le declenchement de la guerre du Sonderbund, qui conduirait finalement a la formation de l'Etat federal suisse moderne.
Au revers, le design transmet un message puissant d'unite et d'identite suisse. Une croix suisse centrale rayonne parmi les drapeaux et les fusils croises, entouree d'une couronne de laurier et surmontee d'une paire de mains jointes - un embleme intemporel de la solidarite confederee. La denomination « 40 Btz. » (Batzen) marque cela comme une piece de valeur a la fois symbolique et notionnelle. Bien que cet exemple soit une restriction moderne destinee aux collectionneurs, il reproduit fidelement l'esprit du nationalisme helvetique du XIXe siecle et la tradition durable du tir dans la culture civique suisse. Il offre une riche intersection de numismatique, d'histoire et de patriotisme.
