A $14,000 special order piece by my Aunt who lived in Monaco during the 1980's 1990's to wear apres Ski or after skiing. Today this piece would be significantly more. Hand made by an artisan manteau de fourrure at La Maison de Fourrure. Ermine fur is one of the most expensive furs in the world, because it's known as the softest fur and is very hard to source. Ermine animals come in a variety of colors and many have different patterns embedded in their fur. They are very agile, extremely hard to catch. They are almost extinct and there are not many in the world anymore. Back in the 1980's they were hard to source, now even harder and thus more rare. This fabulous piece is stunning and versatile. It can be worn during the day after skiing or at night in a more formal setting. You can achieve 3 different looks with this coat. It looks fabulous left open, buttoned up with the collar up and buttoned up with the collar down. It features the softest fur I have ever touched in shades of: Ivory, tan, bronze, chocolate brown, charcoal grey, dark grey, light grey. The interior is crafted in a substantial thick jacquard, the under carriage of the coat is double lined and stitched with silk in the armpit area. Ermine is known as the softest fur in the world, the most durable. It does not dry out like mink does, it does not fall easily. History and Provenance: Ermine has always been a favorite among royalty throughout different historical time periods. The French royals in particular, believed the ermine furs were a representation of royal "moral purity". The French King Louis VII of France Anne de Bretagne loved ermine fur so much, they included it in their family "Coat of Arms". Ermine still maintains its rare, exclusive position in fashion today.
