Good+/n.a, v.1, 320pp.; v.2 296pp. Both volumes are bumped and rubbed on spines, board edges, and corners, v.2 (1844) has a 1? repaired tear to head of spine, hinges are loose but holding, generally worn with light to moderate foxing/soiling/spotting/age toning to text throughout, particularly heavy in the preliminaries as is common, occasional small tears. Both books appear to be complete, with all 12 months present in each, a few hand-colored plates and a multitude of b/w plates/cuts throughout. These two very special tomes achieve their star status in the fact v.1 (1843) Contains the first appearance of Poe?s ?The Conqueror Worm? on p.32 and his first printing review of ?Flaccus? on pp. 195/96) as well as four other critiques by Poe. V.1 also contains first appearances of James Fenimore Cooper, William Cullen Bryant, Oliver Hazard Perry, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. V.2 (1844), contains several reviews by Poe, among them a review of ?Orion?, as well as the first printing of his poem ?Dreamland?.
