Item description

Vintage original 8x10 in. US double-weight matte publicity photograph of silent film actor and director, FRED J. BUTLER, c.1916. Taken during the beginning of his motion picture career which started at the Fine Arts Studio (AKA Triangle Film Corporation), where D.W. Griffith was making his epic Intolerance, the image features an interior medium shot of the Silent Era actor-turned-director wearing a dark suit with a tie as he sits on a wooden bench in front of a white backdrop. As indicated in the lower right corner, this photograph was taken by the famed Carpenter studio of Los Angeles. Printed on double-weight stock with a beautiful matte finish, this vintage original photograph is in very fine+ condition without any pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws. Fred J. Butler was born on October 22, 1867 in Idaho as Alfred Joline Butler. He was an actor and director, known for Smiling All the Way (1920), Fickle Women (1920), and Making the Grade (1921). He was married to actress Adele Belgrade and was the father of actor/director David Butler. He died on February 22, 1929 in Los Angeles, California.
