Item description

Vintage original 11 x 14 in. US lobby card from the classic 1950's drama/romance, THE RAINMAKER, released in 1956 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Joseph Anthony. Burt Lancaster co-stars as a con man during the Depression who promises rain to a desperate drought-ridden Kansas town as well as marriage to a local desperate spinster (Katharine Hepburn). The image depicts a close shot of Katharine Hepburn happily gazing into the face of handsome Burt Lancaster. It is unrestored in near-fine condition as shown with a Canadian censor stamp. William Holden was originally cast as Bill Starbuck. After Holden backed out, Burt Lancaster read about it in Hedda Hopper 's column and phoned producer Hal B. Wallis. Lancaster agreed to star in Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957) if he would get the role of Bill Starbuck in this film. Elvis Presley tested for the role of Jim Curry while under contract with Hal B. Wallis.
