Item description

Priced per 1 wheel (or use qty to select how many you need) RARE FIND, these are NOT reproductions. THESE ARE REAL ANTIQUE (NEW/VERY VERY OLD STOCK!) In our "picking" we found what was like a "barn find" of a box full of unused antique wheels, we guess for old tin toy cars/trucks. We do not know the year made and welcome any expert comment as to brand, date, application etc. We are not toy experts! We are not even sure what they are made of. I believe they were made before Bakelite was invented, as we cracked one apart and it looks more like a dense roofing material, sort of like a hardened tar with brown fibers. We then did a sample test burn and it definitely smelled like burning roof shingles rather than the phenol smell of Bakelite, so looks to be formulated from an asphalt or coal tar by product. When found they were filthy and mixed with bits of old newspapers, dust, dirt etc. We did a bulk wash to wash off a lot of the dust, dirt etc, HOWEVER please plan on doing some further cleaning, as we do not have time to hand clean every wheel. Some dish detergent and a soft toothbrush will clean them up, (and you can then put on some tire gloss or Armor All if you want extra gloss to them) They are hard/solid material. No cracks, but could crack or break if abused, crushed, dropped while on metal car, etc, or you let the kids race cars with them! so best reserved for authentic display pieces and not for child play. Guaranteed unbroken on arrival. Note there also can be some light irregularity to each due to the age or manufacturing process back then. See pictures. They measure around 1.5" diameter by 1/4" wide
