Item description

This is a very old Lea Perrins Worcestershire bottle that is embossed on the bottom, "J21D" over a "S". The stopper topped, seamless bottle's markings indicate it was made in the U.S. as the earliest U.S. bottles were marked with the letter J followed by a number followed by a D with a letter S beneath. The JD with the S stood for John Duncan Sons. The numbers, which ran from 1 to 68 signified mold codes, the lower the number, the older the bottle. From my research, this pattern was followed from the late 1877 through the 1880s. After that point, the bottles were marked JD followed by a number. My father, an avid bottle hunter, dug this bottle up from the ruins of an old southern plantation in Virginia more than 40 years ago. The Victorian Era condiment bottle is in wonderful condition, free from breaks or cracks. The aqua color is strong but there are sediment stains inside the bottle that effect clarity. I suspect someone could clean this. The antique Worcestershire bottle measures a little over 7" tall and 2" wide.
