Low-growing plant that creates an attractive ground cover, complete with moss-like foliage and masses of purple, white, pink or lilac blooms that last all summer. Moss verbena is grown as a perennial in the warm temperatures of U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 9 and above. In hardiness zones 7 and 8, moss verbena freezes during the winter but often returns the following spring. In all other climates, moss verbena is grown as an annual. Moss verbena works well in borders or flower beds and is an attractive addition to a hanging basket.
