USDA Hardiness Zone (F):6 (-10 to 0 F), 7 (0 to 10 F), 8 (10 to 20 F), 9 (20 to 30 F). Germination: 20-90 days. Optimum soil temperature for germination: 65-70F Sowing depth: 1/16". Blooming period: March-July. Seeding rate: 75 seeds per square foot. Average planting success with this species: 60%. Low-growing plant that creates an attractive ground cover, complete with moss-like foliage and masses of purple, white, pink or lilac blooms that last all summer. Moss verbena is grown as a perennial in the warm temperatures of U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 9 and above. In hardiness zones 7 and 8, moss verbena freezes during the winter but often returns the following spring. In all other climates, moss verbena is grown as an annual.
