This collection is a series of 40 Artistic Rendering of the first 40 FIRST LADIES of the UNITED STATES. Each envelope has a likeness portrait of the First Lady, her name, and the years they served. They are in fact stamped envelopes dedicated to the first ladies of this great nation. The beginning 21 envelopes were addressed to Daniel T Layne, Jr. of New Jersey and though the final 19 envelopes are not addressed it wouldn’t seem to matter because it doesn’t appear any of them were ever actually mailed. None have been sealed and all but one contain an informative card. All have varying cancellation dates from 1977 or 1978 and each names the postal service in the cancellation of where the first lady was born. Whoever put this collection together stopped while Rosalyn Carter was still in residence because there is no indication of when she stopped being first lady. That puts the date of issue during what was the one term served by the 39th president Jimmy Carter who served from 1977-1981. All pertinent information I could gather can be found on the list that will be among the picture if possible or here if not. 1 envelope is missing an informational card but I located an historical site that has beautiful color pictures of the women along with a more detailed bio. If the buyer would take my recommendation I will send them a link where they can download and print these pages and they can also bring the collection up to date with the ladies that followed Mrs. Carter. I’m certain some of the stamps will be more valuable than others but I did not factor that into the price as I simply haven’t the time to research it and it is not my area of expertise. As far as I know there is possibly a single stamp that could fetch more than your cost for the entire collection[J1] . I’m rooting for you. [J1]
