Item description
50 Society Garlic Seeds | Ornamental, Edible, Perennial, Flowering (T. violacea)
Other Names: Tulbaghia violacea, Sweet Garlic
Grow Zones: 7,8,9,10
Society is a fast-growing, attractive, useful perennial ground cover plant. It is both drought and cold resistant The leaves taste like a combination of pepper and onion. Otherwise, the flavor would be described as tasting like garlic. What's great about society garlic is it doubles as a decorative grass. The clusters of pretty purple flowers grow high up on 1-ft tall stalks surrounded by bushy grass beds at the bottom. The flowers bloom for the majority of the year; from summer into autumn. Likewise, if you choose to plant society garlic you will enjoy both beauty and function. Looks great in both pots and in rows.
How to Care for Society Garlic Plants
The plants grow well in loamy or sandy soils. Ensure adequate drainage is evident in the soil to avoid root rot. The Plant will form rhizomes and clumps as it grows that can be divided to make more plants. Divide the clumps in spring every couple of years. General purpose granular slow release fertilizer is recommended; and should be added yearly (in spring). Plant in full sun to partial shade. Overall, it is very low maintenance.
Germination procedure: After frost has passed, sow seeds 1/8th of an inch deep. Keep seeds and soil moist throughout the germination phase. Germination time: 2 weeks.
