Interesting facts about Amethyst: These Quartz crystals are most commonly found as lining in cavities or voids in volcanic rocks (geodes). Amethyst gets its purple color due to the presence of trace amounts of Iron (iron oxide (Fe2O3)) and Manganese in the crystal lattice. When these minerals are exposed to radioactive gamma rays, the purple color is produced. Although Amethyst can be found all over the world, including in Africa, Asia, South America, and North America, its notable occurrences include those in Brazil, Uruguay, Ontario, and North Carolina.
