Item description

An Island Patchwork by Eleanor Early Inscribed by Author An Island Patchwork Eleanor Early Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company Copyright 1941 Illustrated by Virginia Grilley Inscribed by author 290 pages The binding is in good condition, the pages are clean but lightly tanned and some of the outer and bottom page edges are very slightly ragged. The tan cover shows light wear. The jacket is price clipped, scuffed, shows some edge wear especially at the spine ends. Inscription dated 1965 written by Eleanor Early to the previous owners. Good in good dust-jacket. Hardcover. Based on Nantucket, the book roams over half the world to gather its stories - some mad, some merry, some grim with tales of cannibals, mutiny, and shipwreck. Famous Nantucketers roam its pages - Rowland H. Macy, Lucretia Mott, the sailors who founded a Quaker town for a French king, the famous Dunkirk that is still making history. Here too, is the story of good Nantucket food to make you fat - Quahaug chowder and something wonderful called Wonders and second day wedding pudding that only a Nantucketer can tell you about. It is all rich and racy and about the liveliest reading to come out of America in many a day. (#00002096)
