This is an ANTIQUE, Art Deco, MINT Condition, Orphaned “Golden Brass Heart Shaped Swirl Design Shoe Button Cover" made by Fishel Nessler in the early-1920s. Originally belonged to my friend’s grandmother who purchased this Button Cover (and its missing mate) in 1923, it was stored in a box in my friend's mothers attic. I'm helping my friend sell what her mom won't be able to take with her when she moves, including this recently rediscovered Shoe Button Cover; we don't know what happened to the original mate. In MINT Condition, there are NO marks, stains, scratches or other damage, it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. Measuring approximately 1 inch long and approximately 3/4ths of an inch wide, the back is Marked *Pat 1419034".
With a BEAUTIFUL Swirled Ornamental design in shallow relief, it can still be used; either to decorate a shoe button or any shirt, sweater, jacket or coat button the needs some ZING. This LOVELY Art Deco Button Cover is VERY Collectable. PERFECT for use as a Button Cover, as part of a Crafts Project, as a Scarf Slide or a Steampunk Costume, this piece of history is also IDEAL for display.
Patent 1419034 was approved on June 6, 1922. It was awarded to Theodore H. Fishel of New Rochelle, New York, who was part owner of Fishel Nessler Company. In the 1920s, certain styles of women's shoes had straps that fasten with shoe-buttons over the instep or about the ankle. As the buttons detract from the appearance of the shoe, it was proposed to provide coverings that serve to conceal the unsightly buttons and afford a source of ornamentation.
