This is a stunning antique HB Quimper faience vase, standing 13" tall and featuring vibrant hand-painted Breton folk scenes. The vase depicts a traditional Breton man and woman in vivid colors, surrounded by a charming rural landscape.
Details:
Maker: HB Quimper, Brittany, France (marked on the base).
Design: Hand-painted scenes of Breton villagers, floral accents, and sculpted lemon-shaped embelishments.
Handles: The fruit depicted on the sides of the vase, with the sculpted handles above. I think they are lemons, a common decorative motif in European ceramics, symbolizing abundance and vitality. These lemon-shaped handles, combined with the vibrant hand-painted Breton scenes, add a lively and artistic touch to the vase.
Size: 13" tall. 12'' wide lemon to lemon weighs 10 lbs.
Condition:
The vase's inside glaze is very clean, showing minimal use.
There is a chip underneath one of the handles, above the lemon, and a couple of spots on the outside of the vase where the glaze has chipped off, likely due to age.
The overall vibrant colors and intricate hand-painting remain striking.
The base shows signs of age, with some handwritten markings, which may indicate notes or an inventory record.
This exceptional piece is a fine example of HB Quimper's craftsmanship, blending traditional artistry with functional design. The lively Breton scenes and lemon handles make it a charming decorative addition to any collection.
Estimated Age: Likely late 19th to early 20th century, based on the style and markings. that is my guess
Whether you're a collector or simply an admirer of European ceramics, this vase is a beautiful and historical work of art. Please review all photos and feel free to ask questions before purchasing.
Shipping: Carefully packed with bubble wrap and shipped in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery.
