Item description

Offered here is this Antique Solid Wood Ladder Back Side Chair. I am unsure of the age or origins of the chair. It is in good, stable condition, however, the caning on the seat is completely gone. The chair now has a custom-made seat pad, that fits neatly over the area where the caning should be. The chair is made of solid wood, although I am unsure of the type of wood, it looks like possibly maple. The chair has machine turned legs. It is sturdy and in completely usable condition. The wood is beginning to split apart at the joints and may need to be re-glued in these areas. The finish is quite worn and faded. There is a fair amount of surface scratches on the chair as well. It looks like it is quite old. The frame is stable and strong, however, and the seat could be re-caned to restore its original design. The chair is 34” tall at the center of the back, 18” high at the seat, with the pad adding another inch, 16.5” wide across the front of the seat, 14” wide across the back of the seat, 15” deep at the seat, 18.25” deep in total, and 18” across the leg span. This is a genuinely nice antique side chair. It could be refinished and would be a beautiful addition to any antique furniture collection.
