Item description

THE MATADOR OF THE FIVE TOWNS by Arnold Bennett Methuen Co. Ltd., 1912 British (True) First Edition Condition: Near Very Good This is a collection of 22 short stories, both light and serious. The title is part of Bennett's then-popular "Five Towns" series (which were mostly novels). It's regrettable that Bennett is little read these day -- this book deserves consideration among connoisseurs of the English short story. The cover corners show some wear, one in particular, and there are bumps on the back cover front edge. Some page edges have also been slightly bumped, and there are some corner creases. The spine is modestly sun-faded. A book plate and some attempted erasures on the end papers. No dust jacket. Still, pretty decent for its age, and less often seen in the U.S. than the Doran (American) edition.
