Item description

Black Raspberry, is a perennial, deciduous shrub native to North America. It produces small, dark purple to black berries with a sweet-tart flavor, commonly used in jams, desserts, and natural dyes. We recommend a soil pH level of 6.5 - 6.8 for raspberry plants. Heritage is a highly popular variety for home gardeners. The fall crop is highly productive and ripens from the end of August through October, depending on your location. The berries have good size, color and flavor. Planting Care: Soil: Prefers well-drained, loamy soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade; at least 6 hours of sunlight daily for optimal fruit production. Watering: Requires consistent moisture, especially during fruiting; water deeply at the base. Pruning: Prune canes in late winter to early spring; remove weak, dead, or diseased canes, and thin out excess growth. Fertilization: Apply balanced fertilizer in early spring; compost or organic mulch can help retain moisture and provide nutrients. Pests/Diseases: Watch for common issues like aphids, spider mites, and fungal diseases. Practice good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to reduce risks. Harvesting: Berries ripen in mid-summer, usually around June to July. Harvest when they easily detach from the plant and are deep in color. Uses: Excellent for fresh eating, making jams, jellies, or freezing for later use. The high anthocyanin content also makes it a great natural dye. Special Notes: Black raspberries spread through suckers and can become invasive if not controlled. Regular pruning and thinning are necessary to maintain plant health and productivity.
