Item description
Popis produktu:
This historically evocative medal commemorates the Imperial campaign in the Caucasus of 1837, issued under the reign of Emperor Nicholas I. The obverse side showcases a finely detailed right-facing bust of Tsar Nicholas I, encircled by an inscription in Old Church Slavonic: ??.?. ??????? I ???. ???????.?, signifying "By the Grace of God, Nicholas I, Emperor of All Russia". The craftsmanship exemplifies the neoclassical tendencies of the period, emphasizing authority and divine legitimacy through imperial portraiture. The reverse features the inscription ???????? ? 1837 ????? (Caucasus, Year 1837), alongside a star and a stylized horizontal sword or baton, symbolizing military action and imperial might. This type of medal was created to honor the service of officers and soldiers involved in suppressing uprisings and expanding control in the volatile Caucasus region. While this piece is a modern restrike, it remains a compelling collector?s item representing a complex and consequential chapter in Tsarist military history.
