Item description

Charles de Mills is an antique rose of the highest caliber. Its mauve or magenta, large and multi petteled, luxuriously fragrant blooms grow in a mass of extroadinanly exotic delight. You will receive one-2 yr (approx) old bare rooted plant wraped in wet paper and enclosed in a plastic bag shipped promptly (2-3 days). also know as Ardoisee Bizard Triomphant Bizarre Triomphant Maheca de Dupont Rosa gallica atropurpurea Rose Bleue (gallica, Unknown, before 1811)) Violette Bronzee This rose is a riot of colour and a cacofoney of blooms sure to delight! Average rating by HMF plant site is an impressive: EXCELLENT. Mauve or mauve blend. Registration name: Charles de Mills Bred in the Netherlands, before 1786-unknown breeder. Gallica / Provins. Crimson and red. Strong fragrance. Average diameter 4.85". Large, full bloom form (40+ petals). Once-blooming spring or summer. Plant is on its own roots, thornless (or almost). Dark green foliage. Height up to 5'. Width of 4' to 5'. USDA zone 4b through 8b. Shade tolerant. Disease resistant, susceptible to Mildew. Prune lightly. This rose blooms on old wood. The earliest mention of 'Bizard triomphant' is in the 1786 catalogue of Gottlob Borner from Dresden, Germany, "bizard" being a term applied to tulips with streaked petals. This term seems to have mutated to "bizarre" in later French publications. Pepinieres Loubert's 2002 Catalogue says this rose came from Holland pre-1700. The 2004 catalogue lists 'Bizarre triomphant' as originating before 1811 and a separate 'Charles de Mills' before 1885. The 1844/45 Van Houtte catalogue contains the first known mention of 'Charles de Mils'. There is no substantion for the date of 1746. A Charles Mills was Director of the East India Company, elected 1785. Disclaimer: Please note that we cannot be responsible for your results. If you receive them damaged, please let us know. We have no control over its environment or care. We grow the plants ourselves and always use a high-quality, well-lit, and well-drained planting medium for planting. You may have damage to the leaves during shipping - this is normal and only cosmetic - new leaves will grow quickly with proper care. We do our best to package your plant with care to cause minimal or hopefully no damage to its leaves damage it, but it happens. It is important to read all the information about this plant to understand the approximate size. Some varieties of roses are susceptible to black spot or mildew, and some are not. This is mainly cosmetic, and once the rose is planted and goes through a short term of transplant shock, the plant will recover and sprout out new, fresh leaves, provided the plant is treated with care. WE DELIVER WITHOUT POTS, bare root, wrapped in wet padding, and placed in a plastic bag, ensuring the roots arrive wet and vibrant. We send receiving and planting instructions with every order. There is always some stress from traveling, but plants are very hardy. If your plant arrives with serious problems, you MUST notify us immediately (no more than 24 hours from receipt and provide photographs. Please treat it like a puppy in a box.
