Item description

Charming addition to any mid century home in this 1950's/1960's Holland Mold 12" pixie elf cookie jar or canister! Darling 3D raised features in this roomy impish elf! These molds are made of weighted ceramic by Holland Mold Co. and were crafty treasures for housewives from coast to coast to hand paint in their colors of choice to match their kitchen decor! This fun vintage treasure is painted in a vivid rich green with cream and brown detail highlights. Clean as a whistle inside and out. A great conversation piece for any collector and will add a touch of whimsy to any pixie inspired kitchen decor or tasty treats! Holland Mold company was founded in 1946 by Frank Hollendonner, an Austrian immigrant who learned mold making at a tile company in his homeland. Having settled in Trenton, New Jersey, the home to numerous potteries, his experience easily got him a job making molds for a tile manufacturer. The likeable Hollendonner made friends throughout the local ceramics industry, and soon got requests to create molds for a variety of items. This triggered the founding of Holland Mold, a company he started in his four car garage with his brother Rudy as his partner. Business was brisk, and Frank mortgaged his home and borrowed money in order to finance the move to a proper facility. Never producing finished products, they made molds primarily for home crafters, although some of their designs found their way into mass production at various potteries. Holland Mold flourished for fifty-one years, and was ultimately owned by three generations of the Hollendonner family. Cookie jar is in excellent vintage condition! No cracks or repairs! The usual pre-loved light surface wear here and there from years of Ethel serving up her cookies in style, but nothing that distracts from this piece of pixie kitchen history. 2 tiny fleabites on lid (hat) rim, each ear tip has a tiny ding on the ear point and the usual grazing throughout. Please see enlarged pics for best description and details. Makers Mark: Holland Mold on bottom Approximate size: 12" tall with lid by 9-1/2" wide by 8-1/2" deep ? Weight: 3lb 6oz before packing materials and shipping box.
