Item description

CIRCA 1901-1902, U.S. ARMY, HOSPITAL STEWARD, PRIVATE FIRST CLASS, CHEVRONS, SET The army manufactured rectangular backgrounds before 1908 and circular backgrounds after that date. Dark blue wool construction with white stitching on a green wool Maltese cross with a white wool background. In 1901, these chevrons replaced the chevrons that had a red Geneva Cross. At least one hospital steward was to be stationed at every post, and two if the garrison was of six companies or larger. These chevrons originate from an established collection of U.S. Army Chevrons. Unused, NOS. These chevrons were short lived and do not react to ultra violet light. This originates from an established collection of U.S. Army chevrons.
