Item description
[Fine Bindings - Sangorski and Sutcliffe], Pepys, Samuel, DIARY AND CORRESPONDENCE OF SAMUEL PEPYS, ESQ., F.R.S., New York: Dodd, Mead Company, 1884. 10vols. complete, set # 75 of 150, rebound Morocco/blue cloth hardcovers w/gilt stamped labels to spines, 3 raised bands, 8vo (8.750x5.625?), very good+/na., approx. 3500pp. Spines having sun-faded to more of a green hue are these tomes only perceived flaw, a beautiful, and notable set, though no provenance therein, according to Doyle auctioneers/appraisers, they came from the estate of Sara Roosevelt Wilford ? the grand-daughter of Theodore Roosevelt.
Sangorski and Sutcliffe, Samuel Pepys, Sarah Roosevelt Wilford, and gorgeous Morocco leather, how does one go wrong on this one? Quite the distinctive set of books indeed ? and yet another marvelous Capture of Tyme!
One of the 150 sets printed on Holland paper, this is essentially a vivid, firsthand account of life in 17th-century England, particularly during the Restoration period. Samuel Pepys, a naval administrator and Member of Parliament, kept his diary from 1660 to 1669, chronicling both personal and public events with remarkable detail and candor.
