Item description

Be sure to add me to your favorites list ? Die Cast Mercury Space Capsule, Friendship 7 John Glenn Earth Orbit Space Ship Spacecraft This is a mint condition, beautiful small scale die cast Mercury space capsule from Mattel. This one is Friendship 7, which was the ship that John Glenn orbited the Earth in, after being launched by an Atlas rocket. It's very detailed and has an added window to see the astronaut inside. My favorite part is the retro rocket pack, the silver portion used to slow the capsule down before reentry, then jettisoned to expose the heat shield. On Glenn's flight this retro rocket pack was intentionally kept in place, as it was believed his heat shield may be coming loose (luckily this was not the case). This diecast is a little over 2 and 1/2 inches tall. It's die cast metal with some plastic parts. This is a really great version of this historic spacecraft! Thanks for looking! Check out my Store!
