One check dates from August 2, 1928 for $250 for the story @Bsre Hands? - the other check from January 31, 1929 for $170 for ?The Painted Decoy.?. At the time these were issued Gardner was living in Ventura and just about ready to introduce Perry Mason to the world. The 1928 check had three folds, the other was folded in half. These are barely noticeable. Both have bank perforations and stamps. Early checks like this are not common.
