This wind spinner/wind catcher features four Armadillos and is made so that it will gently spin in the breeze without any noise. Each Armadillo figure measures approx. 5" wide by 2-3/4" tall and are connected with swivels so that each one spins independently. The overall length of the wind catcher is approximately 18-3/4" long. The Armadillos all have a rusty patina started and can be left to continue rusting or sprayed with a clear coat to inhibit any more rust. Can be hung inside or outside. Each one is unique, so no two will have the same patina. Would make a nice housewarming gift. Last picture is the 2025 addition to my property.
The back story to my armadillo windcatcher is in honor of Buford. I live on a fairly wooded piece of property, as you can see from the pictures taken from my porch looking out. One day, out walking with my dogs, they found a batch of young armadillos. Armadillos have their young as quadruplets. I got my dogs gathered up and went back to the house. The next day, in broad daylight, is this one little guy roaming around my house. I named him Buford. I tried taking him back up to where his siblings were, but the next day, he was back up close to my house. I tried moving him for about three days, then gave up, and instead concentrated on making sure my dogs couldn't hurt him. He was around for about two weeks, and then disappeared. I hope he finally figured out that he was suppose to be nocturnal. I know most people don't like armadillos because they ruin their lawn, but I don't have a lawn and find the little critters to be really cute. Some interesting facts about them are that the nine-banded armadillo is noted for its movement through water. It can either walk underwater for short distances, holding its breath for as long as six minutes; or to cross larger bodies of water, it is capable of increasing its buoyancy by swallowing air, inflating its stomach and intestines. The nine-banded armadillo, also, always gives birth to identical quadruplets. They do carry leprosy, but a good handwashing will protect you, if you should happen to touch one.
