Tracks: Part Of A Whole Minawa The Big Apple Umhome Maseru Inner Crisis Blues For Huey Nomali Maesha Ingoo Pow-Pow (Children's Song) About The Record: Home Is Where the Music Is, is a 1972 jazz and Afrobeat double LP by South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, recorded in exile in London due to apartheid, marking a significant departure from his earlier pop-oriented jazz work. The album blends South African rhythms with soul-jazz and Afro-Cuban influences, showcasing Masekela?s emotional depth and technical prowess, and is celebrated as a spiritual soul-jazz classic, included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Its creation during apartheid highlights its political undertones, celebrating African culture and resilience, with contributions from exiled and American musicians like Caiphus Semenya and Larry Willis. Critics, such as Thom Jurek of AllMusic, praise its fusion of emerging jazz schools, making it one of Masekela?s greatest recordings. No specific tracks from the album are noted as hit singles in available sources, with its strength lying in its cohesive, exploratory sound rather than individual chart success.
