Up for sale is a 1986 poster for the Alaskan Iditarod Dog race by artist Jon Van Zyle. This was signed by the in silver ink in the lower right corner. The artist was also a 2 time competitor in the race. In 1979 he was named official Iditarod artist, a title he still holds today. This poster was a celebration of all the female mushers. The woman in the poster is most likely Susan Butcher. She won the race in 1986, becoming only the second woman to do so. She then became the only woman to win multiple races, as she took home the victories in 1987, 1988 and 1990. Unfortunately she passed away in 2006 at the young age of 51. The 1st Saturday in March, the start of the Idatarod, is Susan Butcher Day in Alaska. Poster comes in a silver metal frame with glass front. Frame measures 20 1/4" long and is 16 1/4" tall, I would assume the print is probably 20" long by 16" tall. Everything is in very good condition, ready to be displayed on your wall.
