Lucretia Moroni?s work in silver is on full display in this work entitled Pierrot. Etched silver foil with enamel on top to bring the portrait of a clown?s tears to life. The enamel adds casual depth to an already trivial challenge of realism. It combines elements of tradition Americana and Italiana colors (pastels, bright warm colors; colors that are reminiscent of the 1950s) against a portrait angle image of the clown. The clown of course is crying, making this a joke of a joke. (I have taken the liberty to nickname this work ?Pagliacci?). The whole frame is 16 inches tall and 14 inches wide. The silver frame miniature is roughly 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide. It is signed in the bottom right Moroni and very lightly stamped Ag=13g. I suspect it to indicate that there is 13 grams of silver foil but those weights are usually off - regardless, the value here is in the art and not in the silver. Beneath the work, on the secondary frame, is a name plate of the artist. Please see photos as that is the most important part. There are a two marks to call attention to: one on the face in the enamel, and the other is just to the right above the portrait in the enamel as well. Again - see photos!
