Item description

The Last Testament of Lucky Luciano by Martin A. Gosch with Richard Hammer (1975 Hardcover without Dust Jacket) • Author: Martin A Gosch (1911-1973) • Co-Author: Richard Hammer (1928-2021) • Illustrations: Historic B W Photographs • Book Design: Susan Windheim • Publisher: Little, Brown and Company Boston, MA U.S.A. 1975 Expose of organized crime families in New York, based on information provided by Charles "Lucky" Luciano and others associated with alleged Mafia activities. viii + 461pp. The 1973 movie Lucky Luciano, based upon the same person as the book, was released at roughly the same time as the book, 10 years after the gangster's death. This was the condition Mr. Luciano imposed on the authors for his detailing of life events. Charles "Lucky" Luciano (1897–1962) was an Italian-born gangster who operated mainly in the United States. Luciano is considered the father of modern organized crime in the United States. He was also the first official boss of the modern Genovese crime family. Hardcover has red cloth boards with gold lettering on spine, but no dust jacket. Cover has a few injuries from storage. Photos are not printed on plates, but on numbered pages within text. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked. No ownership markings. Seldom, if ever, read. Size: 8vo – over 7 - 9” tall, 469pp. Condition: Good + Hardcover without Dust Jacket – Always privately owned. No Ownership markings. Copyrights 1974, 1975. Indicated the second date was after Martin Gosch's death. Printed in U.S.A. Edition or print-run info not explicitly stated. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR. Notes on Condition/Edition ratings: Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new” or even “new.” Using the same term as coin collectors, “can’t guarantee it is uncirculated, but it looks very much like it could be.” Booksellers need similar grading to describe this... Like New – A new book, no marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks or shelf-wear) except not obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the publisher. Same sort of thing about grading as Fine above except generally used for newer publication dates for titles still in print. Good – How someone else might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” This is the most likely condition for books of this age title, shows the book has been read or previously owned. Acceptable – How a young child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a book that has been damaged.) Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have missing pages (you should ask). Usually requires repair to be usable. Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end. 1st Thus – Unique somehow, maybe 1st paperback, new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st edition. A collector might desire this copy for their collection. Thanks for looking!
