That he was in love with the folk music of his country is evident when one hears his two most nationalistic works, the March Slave and the 1812 Overture. But he was also a cosmopolitan who relished folk music wherever he found it. Thus the Capriccio Italien is as characteristically Italian as the other works in this album are Russian.
