Man and Mystery in Asia by Ferdinand Ossendowski (1924 Hardcover in protected Dust Jacket)
Translated into English by Lewis Stanton Palen
An account of the Polish explorer, writer, and geologist Ferdinand Antoni Ossendowski's (1876-1945) ten years' travels in south-western Siberia and Outer Manchuria to study and develop coal, salt, gold, and petroleum veins as well as to conduct scientific expeditions to investigate the mineral and healing springs.
This book recounts four Asiatic expeditions conducted before 1920. xvi + 343pp.
Ossendowski is remembered as a Polish writer, explorer, university professor, and anticommunist political activist. He is known for his books about Lenin and the Russian Civil War in which he participated. During the period between WWI WWII, his international fame increased with the translation of his international travels and harsh criticism of communist regimes.
After the communists took control of Poland, his original notes and all found copies of his books were burned.
Lewis Stanton Palen (1878-1960) was a U.S. translator and writer remembered for popularizing Dr. Ferdinand Ossendowski in the U.S.
