What is ?HD Color Technology / HD Red Copper?
HD stands for High Definition. In this context, Matrix is using it to describe shades that are particularly bright, vivid, and saturated?especially in the red copper families.
These shades are part of their Reflect Collection. The Reflect line houses reds and coppers that are more intense and noticeable, offering visible intensity and bold coloration.
What is ?Cera?Oil Conditioning Complex?
This is the conditioning / oil?infused component built into the color formula. ?Cera?Oil? Conditioning Complex? includes things like fruit oils or similar nourishing/oil/ceramide?type components that help smooth hair, add shine, reduce damage, and improve conditioning.
It helps with things like shine, conditioning and keeping the hair feel better even through the coloring process. It also helps the color last better (less dulling) because the hair shaft is more protected.
Features / Benefits of the Combined System (HD + Cera?Oil + Red/Copper Shades)
When you use the HD Red Copper shades with the Cera?Oil Conditioning Complex, you get a combination of:
Vibrant, intense red/copper tones: The HD technology is formulated to deliver richer, more saturated reds and coppers.
Good grey coverage: The permanent versions (SoColor) that have HD Red Copper are designed to deliver exceptional grey coverage. The formula is made to cover greys evenly.
Longer color retention / lasting shine: Because of the conditioning complex, the color tends to maintain its vibrancy longer, and the hair retains more shine. The Cera?Oil complex helps reduce fading / keeping the hair looking healthy.
Improved hair condition through repeated colorings: The built?in oils / ceramides help protect the hair fiber (especially the cortex) from damage, so over time you?ll have less dryness / brittleness compared to formulas without that conditioning complex.
Predictable tone performance: Because the reds/coppers are in a family with pre?blended backgrounds + reflect (virtually meaning that warm/cool subtones are balanced), the result tends to be more reliable in terms of tone. The color should behave more predictably (less surprises in how warm or vivid it turns out).
Limitations / Things To Watch Out For
Fading: Red and copper tones generally fade faster than some other tones. Even with conditioning complexes, those pigment molecules are large, more prone to washing out over time. User maintenance is important. The formula helps, but doesn?t eliminate fading.
Development / Application carefulness: To get full intensity, the correct developer, timing and application are needed. If the base is significantly lighter or different, underlying pigments might influence how ?true? the red or copper shows.
Porosity prior color: If hair is porous or previously lightened/colored many times, color uptake might be uneven. The conditioning complex helps, but doesn?t totally negate effects of damage or porosity.
Color transfer / bleed: Reds can sometimes bleed more (onto towels, etc.) especially right after coloring; that?s common.
What developer should you use?
It depends on your desired result and your starting hair color:
Developer Volume
Lifting/Depositing Power
When to Use
10 Volume
Deposit only, no lift
Darkening or coloring same level
20 Volume
1?2 levels of lift
Gray coverage or slight lightening
30 Volume
2?3 levels of lift
Going lighter
40 Volume
3?4 levels of lift
High lift (rarely used with reds/coppers)
Mixing Ratio:
Usually, the mixing ratio is 1:1 (1 part color to 1 part developer), but always check the specific instructions on the packaging or insert for the exact product you have.
