It is uneven and seems to have sand or clay stuck in it. see pics This is the first one I have seen that is hollow with holes/mesh. the lid fits a little wonky. and it seems to have sand or clay stuck to the surface on the inside. To me, this adds to the character and history of the piece. I generally do not polish any of the metal items. I prefer the rustic look, and I know many others do as well. But if you prefer a shiny look you can use an appropriate cleaner to remove tarnish from Silver and to polish Brass and Bronze. I leave this up to the Buyer to decide. I have a soft spot for Brass and you will find many pieces listed and likely many more I am working to get up for others to adopt and add to their collection.
