Memphis was home to a popular baseball team for over half a century, the Memphis Chicks. The Chicks played their home games at Tim McCarver Stadium, which opened in 1978 and hosted many Minor League Baseball teams around town before ultimately becoming the Mississippi Braves. This hat is stadium give away from The Memphis Chicks souvenir that would make a great addition to any baseball fan's collection.
The Memphis Chicks were a minor league baseball team that played in the Southern League from 1978 to 1997. The team was based in Memphis, Tennessee and played their home games at Tim McCarver Stadium. The Chicks were affiliated with several major league baseball teams during their existence, including the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, and Chicago Cubs.
The Chicks were quite successful during their time in Memphis, winning four Southern League championships (in 1979, 1983, 1987, and 1990) and making several playoff appearances. The team also featured several notable players who went on to have successful major league careers, including Bo Jackson, Mark Gubicza, Danny Tartabull, and Mike Sweeney.
However, in 1998, the Chicks moved to Jackson, Tennessee and became the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. The team has since moved again and is now known as the Jackson Generals. Despite their relatively short existence, the Memphis Chicks remain a beloved part of Memphis sports history.
