Item description

ROYAL COPENHAGEN Aluminia Christmas Plate 1904 Sheaf of Wheat Royal Copenhagen Aluminia Faience (Fajance) Christmas plate featuring a sheaf of wheat and the inscription JUL 1904. JUL (or JULEN) is the Danish word for Christmas and is pronounced like the English word YULE. It is a Danish tradition to put out a sheaf of wheat at Christmas time to feed the birds and other wildlife. This is the first plate in the series than ran from 1904 through 1938. Designed by Harald Slott-Moller, a Danish painter and ceramist, collectable in his own right. Approximately 6 OE inches (16 cm) in diameter. Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the Aluminia trademark – a large stylized “A” crossed with three wavy lines. The fractional mark 234/357 on the back has the decoration number on top and the shape number on the bottom. Although all the plates in the series are basically the same size and shape, the design for each year is partially molded into the plate so each year has its own shape number. Book Value in 2004 (CHRISTMAS PLATES by Lars Christoffersen) was $100-$200. I have a dozen or more different plates in the Aluminia Christmas series. Please inquire if interested in other years. VERY GOOD ANTIQUE CONDITION (no chips, cracks, or repairs) and FIRST QUALITY (no scratch through trademark). However there is some mild crazing (a network of tiny cracks in the surface glaze that do not go through the underlying ceramic body), most visible on the back, and almost unavoidable in faience (earthenware) products that are over 100 years old. Please view all photographs for a better understanding of condition. SHIPPING, HANDLING and INSURANCE within the United States is just $9.95 for this item. COMBINED SHIPPING! Except for a few LARGE or HEAVY items, additional items ship for just $3 each when shipped together, one of the cheapest combined shipping rates ! Save on shipping by buying more than one item! Certain LARGE and HEAVY items are excluded, but all PLATES sold individually will qualify for this low combined shipping rate. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS – Please inquire about international shipping rates. RETURNABLE! for a full refund if item not as described. Please ask your questions before bidding.
