Rare 1930s CORO BROOCH Ornate Brass PIN Scrollwork Trombone Clasp Pre-Pegasus
Rare 1930s Coro Brooch ? Ornate Brass Scrollwork, Trombone Clasp ? Pre-Pegasus Mark
Step into the golden age of American costume jewelry with this rare, oversized Coro brooch, dating to the late 1930s?early 1940s.
Featuring intricate scrollwork, lattice detailing, and a rich gold-tone brass finish, this piece is a stunning example of Coro?s early craftsmanship?marked in script without the Pegasus emblem, and secured with a trombone-style clasp, a hallmark of pre-war design.
The ornate design gives an art nouveau flavor, it is raised in relief and "hollow" as seen in the back.
BIG! BOLD! BEAUTIFUL!
MARKED/DESIGNER: Coro (script mark, pre Pegasus)
METAL: Brass
CLASPS: Trombone Tubular
MEASUREMENTS: 3 7/8"
Script ?Coro? mark without Pegasus: This style was used before 1945, often between the late 1930s and early 1940s.
Trombone clasp: First seen in the 1890s, but most commonly used in European and American jewelry from the 1930s to 1950s. It fell out of favor after that.
Size and ornate design: At nearly 4", this is likely a statement piece, possibly from Coro?s more elaborate lines.
CONDITION: This piece of jewelry is in pre-owned and vintage used condition. The clasp and pin shaft are slightly bent and could be tweaked but it still is in working order. There is scratching and finish wear present.
