An outstanding example of early 20th-century American utilitarian stoneware, this 6-gallon Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. crock features the classic cobalt ?6? capacity mark and the oval Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. stamp. It retains its original wire bail handles with turned wooden grips, each patent-stamped ?PATENTED DEC. 21, 1915? ? a hallmark of Red Wing?s durable and functional design period between roughly 1915 and 1930. The interior and exterior display the typical warm gray glaze with fine age-appropriate crazing. The glaze remains bright and clean with even coloration. The piece measures approximately 14oe inches tall and 12oe inches in diameter, consistent with documented Red Wing production standards for this size and era. This substantial crock presents beautifully as a primitive farmhouse display piece or as part of a curated American country collection, combining form, function, and genuine Red Wing history. Condition The crock remains structurally sound and displays very well. One notable chip and short associated crack along the upper rim (see detail photos). Moderate surface wear to the base and interior consistent with age and use. Handles and hardware are original with light oxidation but secure. No structural fractures through the body. Glaze retains strong sheen and uniform tone. A fine, authentic Red Wing example showing honest age and use ? still excellent for display or light utility.
