Item description
Originally from Thailand, this seriously hot pepper makes a lovely impression in the garden or in a patio container. This beautiful ornamental and culinary pepper which is easy to grow and also very prolific, is well-known for its extreme spiciness. Plant produces good yields of 3=5" long by oe" wide hot peppers. Peppers are hot and turn from green to dark red when mature. They are green when unripe but can still be eaten. Extremely hot, the peppers can be used for some spicy southeast Asian recipes, or preserved in oil or vinegar. In the case of Thai cuisine, green peppers are typically used in green curries, while hotter, mature red peppers are used in red curries.
Harvest about 85 days from transplant. (Open-pollinated seeds) 50,000 - 100,000 SHU's
The Thai Birds Eye Chili (Capsicum annuum) is a small, fiery pepper that is commonly used in Thai cuisine. It is also known as the Thai chili or bird's eye chili, and is one of the most popular chili varieties in Southeast Asia.
The plant typically grows to a height of around 18-24 inches, with green leaves and small white flowers. It is a perennial plant, but is often grown as an annual in colder climates. The chili peppers themselves are small and slender, typically measuring around 1-2 inches in length, and are borne in clusters. They start out green in color and ripen to a bright red.
In terms of flavor, the Thai Birds Eye Chili is extremely hot, with a Scoville rating of 50,000 to 100,000 units, which is similar to cayenne pepper. It has a sharp, pungent flavor and a distinct aroma that is often described as smoky or fruity.
The Thai Birds Eye Chili has a long history in Southeast Asian cuisine, and is believed to have originated in Thailand. It is used in a variety of dishes, including curries, soups, stir-fries, and marinades, and is often dried and ground into a powder for use as a seasoning.
In terms of cultivation, the Thai Birds Eye Chili is a relatively easy plant to grow, and can be grown from seed indoors or outdoors. It typically takes around 80-90 days from seed to harvest, and requires full sun and well-drained soil. The plant is often grown in containers or as part of a mixed herb garden.
Overall, the Thai Birds Eye Chili is a versatile and flavorful chili pepper that adds heat and depth to a wide variety of dishes.
