Item description

Antique Cabinet Card Photograph. Identified as the Saint Croix Baseball Team Maritime Champions of 1960, from St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. Photo by Harvey Studios. Measures approximately 13 x 11 including mount. (Note: Our second photo is borrowed from a St. Stephen history page celebrating the team.) The team photo includes: Carl Scullion, infield; Earl Hall, catcher; Dick Glass, infield; Jerry Manuel, infield; Buster McLellan, catcher; Grant Ross, catcher; Hank Hartford, pitcher; A.G. Hayman, manager; Lloyd Hamilton, outfield; Jim Purcell, infield; Fran McHugh, outfield; Bill Cleghorn, outfield and pitcher; Coach (unnamed); Lloyd MacLeod, outfield; Roddie MacMillan, infield and pitcher; Jack Speedy, scorer; Phil Cleghorn, mascot. Absent: Dick Canavan, pitcher; Bill Yardley, utility. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It is in excellent condition. Comments: Back in the post-World War II era, St. Stephen was no ordinary baseball town. They didn't settle for just one outstanding ball team; they birthed a dynasty. The St. Croix Baseball Club emerged as a force to be reckoned with from 1957 to 1960, etching their name into the annals of New Brunswick sports history. After the team clinched the Maritime Championship in 1957, 1958 and 1959, in 1960, their final year of glory, the St. Croix dynasty again reigned supreme. They were once again Border League Champions, triumphed in the provincial semi-finals, and clinched the Maritime Championship.
