Item description

Signed Theodore Alexander Painting Clown Midcentury California Artist Miniature. This is an original painting by Theodore Alexander, one of the great Midcentury painters from the California scene. His work helped shape the transition from cold cubism in the European scene to the warm abstract expressionism found coming out of a more optimistic western coast in the American zeitgeist. Most of his works centered around landscapes but he?d often look around at the entertainment industry for inspiration - that is where this piece comes into the spotlight. The piece was sold sometime around 1940s at the Martin Lowitz gallery in Los Angeles, a gallery that prided itself on homegrown artists. The back of this painting has a note, that while torn, describes Alexander as a ?young American artist who?s work has been acclaimed for it gaiety and vivid colors.? It goes on to discuss some awards that he has won and then also notes California at the bottom (again, partially torn). The work itself is 4 inches by 5.5 inches and mounted into a multilevel frame. The entire frame is approximately 11 inches by 10 inches. All reasonable offers considered. If you have more information about the artist or this particular work, please message us! Shipped to buyer either USPS or UPS depending on what makes the most amount of sense given the recent rates in shipping. This will be communicated to the buyer to comply with TOS. AC
