The 13th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment was one of four Minnesota regiments that fought in the Spanish-American War. The 13th Minnesota was the only Minnesota regiment to see combat. The 13th Minnesota fought in the Battle of Manila on August 13, 1898. The 13th Minnesota suffered the most casualties of any unit in the battle. The 13th Minnesota served as a police unit in Manila after the city surrendered. The 13th Minnesota campaigned against Filipino soldiers seeking independence in 1899.
