This is the rare ST SEBASTIAN GOLD ELECTROPLATED ON STERLING SILVER MEDAL FROM THE FRANKLIN MINT RAPHAEL'S MASTERPIECES. This 45mm 32 gram (according to my scale) proof medal was minted by the Franklin Mint in 1976, as number 3 of a 100 medal set commenting the 500th anniversary of Raphael's birth. They were to be issued from 1976 to 1984, but I do not know if the set was ever completed. The series had a mintage of 10,161 each medal, but mintages were reduced during 1979 and 1981 when the Hunt brothers tried to corner the silver market, driving silver to $50.00 an ounce, and many Franklin Mint silver items were melted and sets not completed. This is a must for any Silver Medal or Franklin Mint collector. The medal has some stains and I am letting the buyer decide on cleaning. The complete set would have contained 96 Troy ounces.
