Sterling Silver 950 Japanese Vintage Candlestick Not Weighted Brass Underside. Fascinating piece of vintage Japanese 950 Silver fused with a brass underside. Many Japanese artisans were fond of fusing different metals together and we presume the brass is much heavier than the soft 950 silver and provided better balance as well as contrast in colors. When you knock on the underside, it sounds hollow so we don?t think there?s any additional weight inside. No way to find out other than to break it apart and that seems extreme. Candlestick can still be used and has much life left in it. We are pretty positive it?s Japanese in origin as it was found with other Japanese silver items. Intrigued us because it?s marked ?Silver 950? and ?Plate? at bottom along with a hallmark that may be from the silversmith or retail company perhaps for export to the west.
