Helen Spence, the author, was born in London and lived in Kent for most of her life, and traveled extensively throughout the world. She was educated at Tonbridge Grammar School and at the University of Bristol where she graduated in Ancient Mediterranean Studies. During her life she wrote a number of books on travel before taking on the challenge of completing this book, "The Beatles", which reflected her lifelong interest in music, both popular and classical.
