Item description

The Complete Cartoons of the New Yorker edited by Robert Mankoff (2004 1st Edition Hardcover in Dust Jacket with 2 DVD ROMs) • Editor: Robert Mankoff • Essayists: 8 named individuals • Cartoonists: 182 named/displayed in book plus hundreds more on CDs • Book Jacket Design: Toshiya Masuda • Publisher: Black Dog Leventhal Publishing, Inc. New York, NY U.S.A. 2004 The 2 DVD-ROMs included with the book are what really makes the "Complete Cartoons" complete. Compatible with most home computers and easily browsable, the disks contain a mind-boggling 68,647 cartoons, indexed in a variety of ways. Perhaps you'd like to find all the cartoons by your favorite artist. Or maybe you'd like to look up the cartoons that ran the week you were born, or all cartoons on a particular subject. Of course, you can always begin at the beginning, February 21, 1925, and experience the unprecedented pleasure of reading through every single cartoon ever published in The New Yorker. The book plus 2 DVD-ROMs contain every cartoon printed in the 80 years starting February 21, 1925, until February 23, 2004. The printed book has 2004 cartoons split into 8 decades described by eight different authors. Of course, the cartoons represent the work of thousands of cartoonists. Enjoy this one-of-a-kind portrait of American life over the first eight decades of The New Yorker, as captured by the talented pens and singular outlooks of the masters of the cartoonist's art. 657pp. Robert Mankoff, himself a master cartoonist, was the Cartoon Editor for The New Yorker magazine surrounding the 2004 publication. The book also has a foreword by David Remnick, Mankoff’s boss in 2004. Hardcover has white paper boards, full color The New Yorker mascot figure printed front, back and spine, black red lettering on front spine in a Fine (As New) complete dust jacket. The jacket’s protected within a glassine covering. Both DVDs are in the original, unopened, publisher’s packing attached to front paste-down. Interior is tight, clean, and unmarked. No ownership markings. Size: Folio – over 12 - 15” tall, 657pp. Condition: Fine (As New) Hardcover in Fine (As New) Dust Jacket – 1st Edition. Always privately owned. No Ownership markings. Copyright 2004. All artwork is reprinted from The New Yorker magazine with permission. Manufactured in China. Full print-line “b d f h g e c a” implies first print-run of this assumed 1st Trade Edition. ISBN: 1-57912-322-8. LCCN: 2004046371. MSR = US $60.00. Notes on Condition/Edition ratings: Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new” or even “new.” Using the same term as coin collectors, “can’t guarantee it is uncirculated, but it looks very much like it could be.” Booksellers need similar grading to describe this... Like New – A new book, no marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks or shelf-wear) except not obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the publisher. Same sort of thing about grading as Fine above except generally used for newer publication dates for titles still in print. Good – How someone else might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” This is the most likely condition for books of this age title, shows the book has been read or previously owned. Acceptable – How a young child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a book that has been damaged.) Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have missing pages (you should ask). Usually requires repair to be usable. Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end. 1st Thus – Unique somehow, maybe 1st paperback, new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st edition. A collector might desire this copy for their collection. Thanks for looking!
