This little promotional recipe booklet from Lydia Pinkham Medicine Company, titled "Sweets," dates all the way back to 1919 (the date isn't printed in the book, so I had to do some online research to find this info). The 32-page booklet measures 7" X 4.5". It is not in great condition, with tears on the back and the cover starting to come apart, a small tear along the edge that goes through most of the pages, and just generally showing its age (the cover has the worst of the wear, though, and mostly the pages are intact). HOWEVER... Folks, this little cookbook is an absolute TREASURE for its content! Along with recipes for such goodies as nut candies, fudge and "vegetable candy" (potato candy and carrot fudge - yum?) there are little bits of advice for the ladies on each page. "When the girl begins to develop into a woman ignorance or mischance may cause many things to interfere with the process." "A large number of women are incapable of childbearing because of some disturbance or impediment in the functions of the generative organs. The success attending the use of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound indicates that the cause of sterility may be removed and the maternal instinct gratified."
There are also testimonials throughout. Mrs. Lucy Green, for instance, says, "Every month my blood would go to my head instead of coming as it should. I had pains all over my body and terrible pains in my head so I could not do my work." Of course she then goes on to praise Pinkham's compound for curing what the doctor could not.
So, this little booklet is tattered and fragile and old, but it's truly a "sweet" find that should not be lost to the trash bin. I am quite sure someone out there will appreciate it. Asking $5.00 obo, just wanting to find it a good home. Everything I have listed for sale is "or best offer", so feel free to make an offer.

I sell a huge variety of stuff to supplement my income and help me put the last of my kids through college. Some items come from flea markets or estate sales, and some come from around our home, but many items come to me from my extended family of hardcore hoarders.
