This Vintage Cup of Fortune set #2 was made in the mid-1960s by Taylor Kent for Red Rose Tea as part of a promotional series. Red Rose Tea released a total of three Cup of Fortune sets, each marked with a number on the bottom of the cup and saucer.
Designed for tasseography, the footed cup and saucer are trimmed in gold, featuring symbols resembling tea leaves, traditionally used for fortune-telling.
The set includes 13 symbols, each associated with interpretations in tea leaf reading:
Saucer Symbols: Fish, Lion, Tree, Cloud, Star, Rose, Moon
Cup Symbols: Anchor, Heart, Bush, Clover Leaf, Bird, House
The footed cup measures 3" tall with a 3.25" opening, and the scalloped saucer is 5.5" in diameter. Both pieces are marked: "Red Rose Tea, Cup of Fortune, English Bone China by Taylor Kent, 2."
The cup has under-glaze crazing, a common characteristic in vintage ceramics that does not affect its structure. The set is otherwise in good condition, with no chips or cracks.
? Historical Note: Originally, these sets were distributed as part of a Red Rose Tea promotion, and each cup and saucer was part of a three-set collection. They were accompanied by an instruction booklet explaining how to use the symbols for fortune-telling, though the booklet is often missing from surviving sets.
This is a vintage item, and colors may vary slightly from the photos. Some signs of wear and patina are expected with age, adding to its authenticity. Feel free to reach out with any questions before purchasing.
